In these fraught times, we just thought we’d take a moment to stop down and talk again about our very humble, very hard-working founder – Joe Saks.
After working for a successful, high volume component reproducer for more than 40 years, Joe decided that the little man was being ignored – or worse, exploited – in the component market place: small companies often couldn’t afford to buy in bulk, so larger distributors would charge them higher prices for minimum orders. Furthermore, he noticed that metal components were the dominant commodity, even though they weren’t always the best choice for various applications – due to temperature, weather, and other inherent circumstances.
Armed with both of these philosophies, Joe Saks started Product Components in Mt. Vernon, New York in 1962 – with the mindset that the customer who bought 10 pieces was just as valuable as the customer who bought 10,000 pieces. And those 10 pieces should be the best pieces suited for the particular job: be they metal… or plastic. After being in business for several months, Joe not only found that his customers appreciated being given the option of materials – he found that his clientele were buying far more plastic components than metal. He surveyed the industry landscape, saw that plastic was indeed more of a niche than metal – and decided to focus solely on the former. And the rest is history…
Product, materials and an egalitarian approach to customers notwithstanding, another thing that set Joe Saks apart was his even keel demeanor. He had his opinions, he had his stances, he had his likes and dislikes (and we realize these are essentially three ways of saying the same thing) – but he never let that interfere with his business practices. It’s as if they were two different universes. And those parallel worlds were a constant for the 16 years he ran the company, ending with his untimely death in 1978.
Despite that unfortunate turn of events, the level-headed corporate acumen continued as Joe’s wife Mildred ran the company until her death in 1983, and it has been the standard ever since then, under the sober leadership of Joe’s daughter Susan.
At the end of the day, Product Components Corporation is like any business, large or small – or any person, for that matter. We’ve had our ups, we’ve had our downs – and we’re fortunate we’ve had more of the former than the latter. And our successes and travails have come not because of what’s happening in other aspects of society – they’ve come because of choices we’ve made. And considering that we are celebrating our 56th year, and our customers continue to rely on us for quality plastic fasteners and components at great prices – with unsurpassed customer service – we think the majority of the choices we’ve made have been good.
No opinions, no stances, no likes, no dislikes – just our best effort for you. It’s what Joe wanted. And Mildred. And Susan. And we know it’s what you want. So that is what you’re going to get.
PRODUCT COMPONENTS CORPORATION is proud to put our customers first, offering the biggest selection of plastic fasteners in the USA – with great prices and comprehensive customer service.
